Obituary for Ronald Eugene Holland

Ronald Eugene Holland, 87, passed away in Parkland, FL on May 20, 2022,
following a brief illness.
Born and raised in Vincennes and Logansport, IN, Ron was the 6 th of 10 children.
As a young adult he moved to the Washington, DC area with his first wife, Irene
Marsh Stewart, and their two children, Steven and Anne. He later moved to
Brooke, VA, with his second wife, Mary Mondics Holland, where he lived for the
next 55 years. In 2021, he moved to Parkland, FL to live with his daughter, Anne,
and to enjoy the Florida sunshine and flowers.
Ron dedicated his career to emergency services, retiring from the Washington DC
Fire Department. He also worked as an emergency dispatcher for Stafford County,
and was a longstanding member, Assistant Chief and ultimately Chief, of the
Brooke Volunteer Fire Department. Ron loved history, cars, coins, gardening,
laughing with his many friends, and spending time with his family.
Ron was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary, their two children, Tony and
Sis Holland, 7 siblings, and a great-grandson, Conner Holland. He is survived by
his son, Steven Holland (married to Amy Sahm) of Lancaster, PA, his daughter,
Anne Presuel (married to Francisco) of Parkland, FL, sisters Marilyn Benner of
Logansport, IN, and Hazel Brewer of Bryant, AR, 3 grandsons, Kevin Holland
(married to Sheryl) of Lancaster, PA, Robert Holland of Philadelphia, PA and
Brian Holland of Minneapolis, MN, 2 granddaughters, Christina Horning (married
to Kenny) of Fredericksburg, VA and Arielle Holland of Aurora, CO, and 2 great-
grandchildren, Matthew and Julia, along with many nieces and nephews scattered
across the country.
No formal service is planned but an online memorial tribute will be posted for
family and friends to share. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be
given in Ron’s memory to the Stafford County, VA SPCA, who generously cared
for a number of their cats after Mary’s death.
